WITHOUT a standout filly to take the headlines, the Thousand Guineas was drifting quietly into the background, but the potential clash of two unbeaten fillies has it firmly back in the spring spotlight, reports The Age.

It says: The race took on a new air of excitement last weekend when Greg Eurell's filly Love For Ransom scored a stunning first-up win and, come Saturday, Commanding Jewel could further enhance her Guineas favouritism if she maintains her unbeaten record.

It is unlikely the two fillies will meet before the group 1 classic at Caulfield on October 17, with Commanding Jewel completing her preparation in Saturday's Thousand Guineas Prelude and Love For Ransom entered for a 1400-metre fillies' handicap at Caulfield on September 30, meaning both fillies could remain unbeaten after three starts.

Brad Spicer, managing owner of Commanding Jewel, said the prospect of two unbeaten Victorian fillies meeting for the first time in a group 1 worth $500,000 had the potential to be a highlight of the spring.

"It's exciting. [Love For Ransom] was impressive on the weekend. I was quite taken with the win and she's obviously very good," Spicer said. "There's still a bit of time before the Guineas and both fillies have another run before the race but if they were both unbeaten and in good form I think we'd have a pretty good contest."
