CAULFIELD filly Soft Sand is back in the hunt for the season's final group 1 race in Brisbane next week after impressing in a 1200-metre trial at Deagon yesterday, reports The Age.

It says: Trainer Colin Little said Soft Sand's place in the $500,000 Tatts Tiara at Eagle Farm tomorrow week had been in jeopardy because he had been unable to give the filly a satisfactory trial the clockwise way of racing, until yesterday.

Facing just two rivals, Soft Sand, under the guidance of Larry Cassidy, relaxed early but sprinted clear in the straight to win by eight lengths. A relieved Little said the filly had handled both the soft ground and the reverse way of going with ease.

''I was happy with her and happy to get the trial into her,'' he said. ''I wanted her to have a race going the right-handed direction but there was no race in either Sydney or Brisbane that suited unless she ran in the Stradbroke last Saturday, and I didn't want to take that option.''
