A shattered Shane Scriven concedes his race-riding days are almost certainly over if he does not win an appeal against the severity of a five-month suspension imposed on him by Racing Queensland Limited stewards on Thursday, reports the Courier-Mail in Brisbane.
It says: Scriven was outed on an improper riding charge in that he wrestled the whip from apprentice Ben Looker near the finish of an Ipswich race eight days ago.
"I can get a one-month suspension for interference which causes a race fall, three months if I test positive to hard drugs and five months for a one-second brain snap trying to win a race," Scriven said. "Strange that."
Soon after his penalty was announced, Scriven entered an appeal to the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal and requested a stay of proceedings. His racing ban is due to take effect from Monday night pending the stay decision.
