Outstanding Perth galloper Scenic Shot added another feature race to his impressive record when he strolled away with the $251,500 Group Two PJ O'Shea Stakes (2200m) at Eagle Farm. Positioned off the speed during the early and middle stages of the race, Scenic Shot came home strongly with a brilliant turn of foot to reel in the leaders and race clear.

At the post Scenic Shot ($2.90 fav, Shane Scriven)) had a two and three quarter length margin over Mirkola Lass ($41), while recent Group winner Fulmonti ($12) was third, another three parts of a length back. Scenic Shot, a $36,000 bargain buy from the 2004 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale, is trained in the west by outstanding young horseman Dan Morton.

Morton left his father, fellow trainer Len, to deputise as he prepares the stable's other star galloper, fellow Perth sale graduate Scenic Blast. Scenic Blast arrived in recent days in England in preparation for the Group One King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot in just over two weeks. By winning today's O'Shea Stakes, Scenic Shot made it back to back group wins. A fortnight earlier he scored a thrilling win over Racing to Win in the Group One Doomben Cup. He is the first horse since Lord Hybrow in 1988 to complete the Doomben Cup-O'Shea Stakes double.

Len Morton said Scenic Shot's chances of running in the upcoming Brisbane Cup would depend on the weight he was given by the handicapper. Last year he carried 59 kilos when he finished fourth behind subsequent Melbourne Cup winner Viewed. Scenic Shot's earnings have reached a massive $1,645,355 - not bad for a $36,000 buy at Belmont's Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
