THREE race series initiatives spread across Queensland will form an important plank in the State Government's plan to rejuvenate country racing, reports Bart Sinclair in the Courier-Mail in Brisbane.

His report adds: Racing Minister Steve Dickson and Racing Queensland Limited chairman Kevin Dixon have formulated the multi-tiered plan to direct $1 million annually over four years pledged by the LNP in the state election campaign to boost the flagging racing industry in rural areas.

"I am determined to build a sustainable future for country racing and these new regionally focused meeting programs form a big part of this commitment," Mr Dickson said. "This initiative will allow race clubs to attract stronger race fields and entice more patrons to the bush tracks."

The Showcase Country Series, Celebrate Country Series and Sustain Country Series will begin in September.

Dixon said the seven prime Showcase Country Series meetings would be aired on Sky and have TAB coverage.

"Prizemoney is the lifeblood of the industry and accordingly each meeting in the Showcase series will have a feature race worth a minimum of $20,000," he said. "Where possible these race meetings will be held on public holidays."
