CAULFIELD trainer Mick Price loves taking on a challenge and there are few more demanding assignments than winning one or more of the invaluable group 1 races on offer over the Melbourne spring carnival with a tried horse coming off a serious leg injury, reports The Age.
It says: But few tried horses have the CV or the bloodlines of five-year-old Predatory Pricer, who makes his debut for the stable at just his 16th start in tomorrow's group 2 Liston Stakes at Caulfield.
A half-brother of former sprint star Takeover Target, the son of champion US-bred stallion Street Cry was group 1-placed four times for Kembla Grange trainer Paul Murray but has not raced since his unplaced run as favourite in last year's Caulfield Cup, when he injured his off-front fetlock.
''I really enjoy the challenge of training stallions, especially a really nice horse like this who is also coming off quite a serious injury and has not raced for close to a year,'' Price said yesterday. ''It's exciting training a horse like him. He's a genuine group 1 horse and a group 1 win would mean so much to his value as a stallion once his racing days are finished.''
Over the past few seasons, Price has squeezed group 1 wins out of entires Perfectly Ready and Red Dazzler to set up their stud careers, as well as taking on troubled outsiders such as Alamosa and Shinzig and confirming their futures at stud with wins at the elite level.
