CAULFIELD trainer Mick Price felt greatly satisfied after resurrecting the racing career of former top juvenile Shrewd Rhythm, who scored a surprise win in heavy conditions at Moonee Valley, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.

Its report says: Shrewd Rhythm was purchased out of Greg Eurell's yard just before the 2007 Caulfield Guineas for an estimated $2 million, but was winless in eight starts for trainer David Hayes. But yesterday the rising five-year-old entire scored his first win since the Vain Stakes in August, 2007.

"I love training these sorts of bulls (entires) that have a few tricks about them," said Price, who has had Shrewd Rhythm for only a month. "Horses like Alamosa, Perfectly Ready and Shinzig. We've really put a lot of time into him and it's greatly satisfying to see him rediscover his form."

Punters were not so pleased, however, as Shrewd Rhythm, who started at $18, ran down the $3.30 favourite Allied Force to win by 1╝ lengths.

Shrewd Rhythm is 52.5 per cent part owned by Hayes' Lindsay Park Stud while Nathan Tinkler's Patinack Farm also has 25 per cent of the horse who was viewed as being a potential top stallion after his two-year-old season.

Price said the horse came to him with few injury concerns. "There aren't a heap of soundness issues with the horse, it was largely between his ears, I think. We'll keep him going now as we've got to get his rating back up."
