IN THE space of 10 weeks, Warrnambool-trained galloper Full Peal has risen from a thrashing at Terang to the verge of being qualified for next year's Caulfield and Melbourne cups after being among the final acceptors for the group 3 Summer Cup at Rosehill on Boxing Day, reports The Age.

It says: A win in the $125,000 race at his first attempt at 2400 metres would take Full Peal beyond the first clause for the ballot for both the Caulfield and Melbourne cups in what would complete an amazing turnaround for the horse few had heard of just two months ago.

The five-year-old's co-trainer Symon Wilde said this week from his Warrnambool stable that the winner of his past five starts in Victoria was ready for his tougher assignment in Sydney, but neither he nor his father and fellow co-trainer Bill was under any illusion as to the task Full Peal faced at Rosehill.

''There's not a lot in his favour as he's got a long trip up there,'' Wilde said. ''He's got to go the opposite direction and he's jumping from restricted class to an unknown trip at group level, but we feel he's ready to be tested. We're really happy with the way he's taken his racing and the timing is just right.'' (www.theage.com.au)
