THE Australian Jumping Racing Association yesterday claimed that the groundswell of support to overrule the decision to stop jumps races next year was overwhelming, reports the Sunday Age.

It says: Racing Victoria's decision to terminate all jumps races by the end of next winter has met with a fierce rebuke from the racing industry, according to association president Rodney Rae.

''It's been quite staggering the flood of support since RVL made this mindless decision, it has been so gratifying,'' Rae said. ''All of the stakeholders are behind us and I think that their deep concern is that the RVL chairman and CEO have given in to an outspoken ... minority. And where will they stop? They've targeted whips then jumps races and now the two-year-old races will be on the agenda. I think the industry is aware now how inept and lazy the upper echelon of executives at RVL really are.''

A meeting of the Jumping Racing Association will be held tomorrow and stakeholders will gather on Wednesday to finalise plans to have the decision overturned.

The Australian Trainers' Association president Colin Alderson said his group was firmly behind having last Friday's decision changed.
