WITH All Too Hard appearing to have a mortgage on Saturday's $500,000 Australian Guineas, the second tier three-year-olds are now opting for the rich $1 million Australian Cup the following week, reports The Age.
It says: Trainer Mark Kavanagh confirmed that Super Cool, who won the Autumn Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday, would now head to Flemington and take on the older horses in the Australian Cup.
Kavanagh has always maintained that Super Cool, who finished second in the Victoria Derby, will only have a light autumn carnival, allowing the youngster to have a lengthy spell before the spring carnival.
''He'll run in the Australian Cup,'' he said on Sunday. ''I'm pleased the way he came through his run at Caulfield but he'll only have this run and maybe another before he goes to the paddock. I want him to be in the paddock enjoying a good break in late March and April and May before we look at getting him ready for the spring.''
Super Cool will again clash with Fiveandahalfstar in the Australian Cup. The Derby winner had his colours lowered at Caulfield on Saturday when outsprinted by the son of Fastnet Rock.
Trainer Anthony Cummings confirmed on Sunday the Australian Cup was the main target for Fiveandahalfstar but added the horse's program after that would depend on the weather.
''I was happy how he went on Saturday because he's still a bit soft and his best form is 1800 metres and beyond,'' he said. (www.theage.com.au)
