Everything has gone to plan with Zabrasive leading into Saturday's AJC Australian Derby and the good news continued with his trackwork at Randwick on Tuesday.

The John O'Shea-trained Zabrasive kept his place at the top of the market with a sparkling workout and a favourable barrier draw for the 2400m Classic.

The lightly-raced son of Zabeel drew barrier three for the $1.3 million event and O'Shea said he could not fault the progress of the gelding who won the Rosehill Guineas (2000m) on March 27.

"I think the key for him is that he's been set for the race," O'Shea said.

"The whole focus since he came into work in November was to win the Derby."

Zabrasive was taken to Wyong first-up and won a 1350m Class One before making the jump to Group One company with an eye-catching fourth in the Randwick Guineas (1600m) prior to his Rosehill Guineas triumph.

He was put through his paces in a searching gallop at Randwick on Tuesday morning in front of a large crowd who assembled to see some of the autumn stars preparing for the AJC's three-week carnival.

Zabrasive worked with stablemate Jessicabeel and was clocked to run 1800m in 2:03.90 with the final 600m in 37.2 seconds and last 200m in 12.5s.

Hugh Bowman will be back aboard Zabrasive in the Derby after missing the Rosehill Guineas victory through suspension.

"I wasn't surprised he won the Rosehill Guineas," Bowman said.

"You can never really expect they're going to start favourite (in the Derby) but we've always thought he was a Derby horse, right from a year ago. He's just needed the extra distance."

Zabrasive is the $3 favourite for the Derby with TAB Sportsbet ahead of Rock Classic, who drew barrier seven, at $3.80.

Randwick Guineas winner Shoot Out is next best at $5.50.

Rock Classic wasn't as impressive as stablemate and fellow Derby entrant Suyama in their work at Randwick but trainer Bart Cummings said that was no cause for concern.

The Australian Guineas winner, who finished a close second to Zabrasive in the Rosehill Guineas last start, ran 1:49.2 for 1600m with the final 600m in 37.8 seconds and last 200m in 14.3s.
