Trainer Danny Williams will decide later this week whether Wasted Emotions will make a surprise appearance in the Listed Weetwood Handicap at Toowoomba on Saturday.

Wasted Emotions took longer than expected to recover from his game second to Battlefield in the Listed Ascot Hcp (1200m) at Eagle Farm last Saturday and was expected to run in the Ramornie Handicap over the same trip at Grafton next Wednesday.

"He was a little the worse for wear after his Ascot run," Williams said.

"It took a lot out of him but we haven't done much with him since the run and he looked to be back in order by late Monday."

The $150,000 Weetwood Handicap (1300m), which will be run under lights, was never on Wasted Emotions' original schedule with Williams preferring the Ramornie.

However, spelling arrangements have caused Williams to reconsider his options for the six-year-old.

"I haven't decided which race he'll run in yet," Williams said.

"The Ramornie nominations only closed today but I'll accept with him tomorrow for the Weetwood and wait until after the barriers come out before making a decision.

"He's going for a spell in Queensland near Warwick so I'm pushing to starting him at Toowoomba. The only thing against Grafton for the Ramornie is I haven't got a place for him to spell down there."

Williams, who is a big fan of cushion tracks, was pleased with the 57 kilograms handicappers allotted Wasted Emotions for the Weetwood.

"I think 57 kilos is a reasonable weight and I'm happy with that. That's what he carried in the Ascot," Williams said.

"The cushion track doesn't bother me. I think cushion tracks are the way of the future particularly in the winter."

Meanwhile, trainer Nick Olive is hoping a successful association with Tye Angland will reap dividends with Voice Commander in the Weetwood.

Olive has confirmed a Weetwood start for Voice Commander who finished third in the Eye Liner Stakes at Ipswich before a last start ninth to Lucky Luna on a heavy track in the Glasshouse Hcp at Caloundra.

"Tye is riding him again and he's been going great. He rides a lot for me in the country so we've had a good association," Olive said.

"The horse is going better than he's ever gone but he hasn't had much go his way.

"The other day at the Sunshine Coast he was legless on the track but he still passed about seven horses and ran home so I was really happy with that."

Olive is undecided about Voice Commander's future past the Weetwood Handicap.

"He might have one or two starts in the early spring, probably in Melbourne, and then we'll turn him out and bring him back for the Magic Millions in January."

Olive also isn't worried about Voice Commander handling the new cushion track under lights.

"I don't think it will be a problem. I know it's a bit of a different surface but he's worked on the Acton track at Canberra his whole career so I don't think the track will worry him at all."
