Trainer John Wheeler is a forgiving person and believes Juice can redeem herself with victory in the Queensland Oaks.

Wheeler is tipping the New Zealand fillies will play a dominant role in the outcome of the Saturday's Group One classic at Eagle Farm and expects Juice to be among them.

Juice was ridden by star New Zealand jockey Michael Walker in her Australian debut in the Group Three Doomben Roses (2020m) eight days ago but produced a performance well below Wheeler's expectations.

The filly raced in the first half dozen until the home turn before compounding to finish 11th to the Graeme Rogerson-trained fellow Kiwi, Awesome Planet.

Juice's failure remains a mystery as Wheeler can't fault her work since the worst race of her career.

Juice came to Queensland with a strong record of four wins and four placings from 16 starts.

She has competed five times at Group One level where her best performance was as runner-up to Daffodil in the 1000 Guineas (1600m) at Riccarton in November.

Daffodil has made the form across the Tasman strong following her success over 2400 metres in the AJC Australian Oaks.

"Her run in the Doomben Roses was terrible," Wheeler said of Juice.

"I still don't know why she went so bad but perhaps it was because she knocked her back leg on the flight over from New Zealand and she was feeling it a little.

"The trip over might also have affected her as she only arrived two days before the race."

Juice has the right credentials to figure strongly in the Queensland Oaks following her fourth to Coniston Bluebird in the New Zealand Derby over the Oaks distance of 2400 metres at Ellerslie on March 1.

She then finished ninth to Jungle Rocket in the New Zealand Oaks at Trentham on March 14 before clinching a winter trip to Queensland by winning the Listed Rotorua Stakes (1400m) at Te Aroha on May 2.

Wheeler rated Juice unlucky not to win the New Zealand Oaks and has named fellow Kiwi Ekstreme as the main threat to his filly in the Queensland Oaks.

Ekstreme was narrowly beaten by Awesome Planet in the Doomben Roses but Wheeler felt the Bryce Revell-trained filly was also unlucky.

"I thought Awesome Planet was a little lucky to win the Roses," Wheeler said.

"There were a few horses who got knocked out of the race and Ekstreme was one of them.

"Ekstreme's run under the circumstances was very good and she got to the line strongly.

"The New Zealand fillies should all play a big part in the Oaks but I've got some doubt about Awesome Planet over the distance."
