The wet early summer weather has played into the hands of trainer Peter White and Jungle ruler who is set to back up in Saturday's East Malvern Community Bank Cup at Caulfield.
The grey, who landed his 17th win at his 84th career start last Saturday at Sandown over 1300m on a heavy track, will be having his 50th start at 1400m this week having won 11 races at the distanced and another at 1407m.
Jungle Ruler revelled in the heavy going to lead all the way and score by 5-1/2 lengths from Status Symbol and Sheedy last week, taking his prize money to more than $730,000.
The Lion Hunter entire has won four of his 20 starts and over $200,000 during his current campaign which could come to an end on Saturday.
"He'll go for a spell after Saturday but he'll be back, he's a racehorse," White said.
Caulfield racecourse manager Jason Kerr said the going was "bordering on heavy" after another 12mm on Thursday, making it 52mm for the week.
Storms and further rain were predicted up to Saturday but Kerr was hopeful the track may be slow come Saturday.
"The track is in great nick. We haven't raced on it for seven weeks," he said.
The rail has been moved out to 14m for the meeting after being 6m out for Caulfield Cup day on October 16.
White said if the predicted rain came, Jungle Ruler would be running on Saturday.
"That's his go, he likes a slow (6) or worse," White said of the seven-year-old who has won four of his 20 starts so far this campaign.
White said Jungle Ruler was hard to control at home at his Mornington stables but when it came to racing he was a real professional.
"Anything a racehorse has to do he does," White said.
"He's a stallion and I give him lumps of sugar to get him to behave himself."
Darren Gauci, who missed last week's win as he was involved in an international jockeys series in Perth, takes the mount on Saturday replacing Michael Rodd who is riding in a jockeys' invitational series in Macau this weekend.
Gauci has won six races on Jungle Ruler, four of them at Caulfield, one at Flemington, and a Peninsula Cup at Mornington.
The Lee and Shannon Hope trained Kallogg is $4.80 favourite with TAB Sportsbet ahead of Jungle Ruler at $5, last year's winner Danzylum at $7.50, with Berringama, Veewap and Wealthy Lad at $9.
Meanwhile the prospects of Johnny Fiasco repeating his win of last year in The 65 Roses Victoria Cup (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday look forlorn as trainer Nikki Burke says she will scratch the gelding if the track is worse than dead (5).
The Distant Music six-year-old hasn't raced since finishing sixth to Saturday's rival, the German-bred Anteros over 1000m at Caulfield on May 1.
"He doesn't go a yard if you spit on the ground," Burke said.
"He's a fast track horse and I've dodged the spring because he wasn't good enough.
"And now I've got him ready and it keeps raining."
The Darren Weir-trained Broken is $4.40 favourite for that event.
