John McNair is still hopeful West Australian sprinter Hay List will make his eastern seaboard debut at Randwick on Saturday.

Hay List, the winner of eight of his nine starts in the west, is among acceptances for the Randwick's 150th Anniversary Handicap (1100m) and McNair is keen to run him but won't if the track is bottomless.

The four-year-old is yet to race since joining the McNair stable earlier this year and is one of two runners for the trainer in the race.

My Vegas was also paid up for in the field of 12 which includes talented sprinter Pinwheel and Stradbroke Handicap hopeful Centennial Park.

Hay List didn't start on anything worse than a dead track in Perth when trained by Jim Taylor.

"My Vegas will definitely run and hopefully the track is not going to be too disastrous because I would really like to see the horse (Hay List) go around," McNair said.

"At the end of the day, the only way to find out if they do go well in the wet is to try them.

"He's worked in slow to heavy at Gosford but that's no real test, the real test is when they are under race pressure."

Chris O'Brien has been booked to ride Hay List whose only defeat in Western Australia came in the Group Three Colonel Reeves Stakes (1100m) in November when he was lame after the race.

Hoof problems prevented him from running during the autumn carnival in Sydney but McNair is now aiming to target the Listed Takeover Target Pacesetter Stakes (1200m) at Gosford on June 23 before looking to the spring.

"We've had a lot of trouble with his feet so we've had to take things a little carefully," McNair said.

"I haven't been too hard with his work but his feet are at the stage now where he can cope with pretty much anything."

The trainer said what he'd seen of Hay List indicated he was a sprinter who was obviously well above average.

My Vegas, meanwhile, is experienced on wet tracks winning his only start on a heavy surface and being placed in one of two starts on slow tracks.

The six-year-old won an Open Handicap over 1000m at Wagga first-up on May 7 before McNair backed him up a day later at Rosehill where he finished 10th in an 1100m Benchmark 85.

"I couldn't be happier with him, he's going terrific," McNair said.

"He'll probably head to the Pacesetter too, although he wouldn't match it with Hay List. But he's a good horse to have as a second stringer."

Randwick was rated a heavy (9) on Thursday with 248mm of rainfall during the past 10 days, including 72mm since Wednesday.
