A couple of spring contenders have made their presence felt on the winter circuit and helped Gai Waterhouse stretch her lead in the Sydney trainers' premiership at Randwick.

Dreamscape and Swift Alliance, racing in the red and black of the powerful Gooree Pastoral Syndicate, represented two thirds of the Waterhouse contingent on Saturday with juvenile Gigas finishing a short half head second to Magic Model in the opening race of the day.

Swift Alliance secured a winning double for Waterhouse and helped Hugh Bowman tighten his grip on the jockeys' premiership after he earlier booted home Dreamscape for the premier trainer.

Waterhouse now has 81-1/2 wins, 3-1/2 ahead of Peter Snowden who had one winner at the meeting, Gergis.

Dreamscape was first-up in the Jim Beam Handicap (1200m) after running seventh to Whobegotyou in the Group One Caulfield Guineas in October last year.

With Waterhouse overseas, stable representative Tania Rouse was in charge and said last year's Group Two Stan Fox Stakes winner Dreamscape was being aimed at the Epsom Handicap in October.

"He can get very big and takes a while to get fit, so Gai wanted to start him off a bit earlier to ease him into spring, it can take him a while to get going," Rouse said.

"He's only about 85 per cent fit at the moment and when Gai gets back from overseas in about ten days she will make a spring plan for him."

Gergis hit back for Snowden two races later after a top ride by Joshua Parr the Arrowfield Stud Handicap (1600m).

The win was Gergis' first since October last year.

Parr had Gergis near midfield on straightening and weaved through a pack of horses to find clear running, going on to overhaul leader Helene Brilliant before Mossurmi came charging from the back of the field.

Gergis held off Mossurmi by a half neck with With A Chance 1-3/4 lengths third.

One race later, Waterhouse returned serve on Snowden with Swift Alliance showing tremendous courage to haul 58kg on the heavy (9) track and fend off Cloudy Morning by a nose in the Sydney City Toyota Handicap (1200m).

"It's been a great day not only here but also Newcastle where we had Idolised and Obama get up. Obama is another Gooree horse so they've had a great day too," Rouse said.

"Gai has been texting me from the UK and she's very happy with the day also."

Bowman has 92 wins, 11 clear of Corey Brown who returns from a family holiday next week.

The metropolitan season ends on July 31.
