Gai Waterhouse celebrated her seventh Sydney trainers' premiership when promising mare Moti's victory gave her a winning double on a dramatic closing day to the season at Warwick Farm on Friday.

Waterhouse was not at the track as she was at a meeting at Randwick of leading owners, breeders and other industry heavyweights to discuss various matters including the leakage of industry funds to corporate bookmakers and the possible merger of the Sydney Turf Club with the Australian Jockey Club.

She finished the season on 85-1/2 wins, 1-1/2 clear of Darley Australia's Peter Snowden, the same margin that separated the pair at the start of the day.

Snowden also landed a winning double which was cancelled out by Waterhouse in the penultimate race of the day, with Moti's win giving the Randwick trainer a race-to-race double after Boca Chita scored.

Moti's race was the last race in which the leading pair had runners, with Snowden's duo Beowolf and Margham running second and third.

The Warwick Farm horseman's double came from wins with Counterpane and Latigo whose victory lifted Snowden half a win ahead of Waterhouse.

But Boca Chita's win in the next race pushed Waterhouse back into the lead and Moti sealed the title.

Waterhouse's long-time foreman Steve Dennett was delighted with the result.

"It's very satisfying for all of the stable, it's been a good team effort from a lot of people," Dennett said.

Moti's jockey Nash Rawiller was also pleased for the Waterhouse team.

"If you had have asked me a while ago if we were going to win I wouldn't have been sure because of Peter's numbers but credit to Gai, she picks and chooses the races so well and our strike rate shows that," Rawiller said.

"There's a lot of hard work from everyone, ground staff and top track riders and full credit to Gai and all of the team, they've done a great job."

Ironically Boca Chita is one the few Darley horses trained by Waterhouse and she stormed to a narrow victory in the Ashcroft Handicap (1200m) to put the Randwick trainer ahead of Snowden.

Earlier, Prince Of Capers gave local trainer Bill Prain something to cheer about with his three-length win in the Busby Handicap (1600m), a race in which Waterhouse had unplaced favourite Bermuda Bankroll and Snowden the unplaced Juveniles.
