Local trainer Jason Warren is eyeing off the Mornington Cup with his rejuvenated galloper The Yartz following his emphatic win there in the $100,000 RM Ansett Stakes.

Given a "perfect" ride by accomplished Melbourne jockey Danny Brereton in the 2400m feature, The Yartz was able to nab the favourite Noble Samurai shortly after straightening and then cruise to victory.

The win was the culmination of a four-month plan by Warren who was a one-time foreman for Hall of Fame trainer Lee Freedman.

"This is what I've been aiming at with this horse for about four months," Warren said.

"It was a perfect ride.

"It's just a massive result for me to win a big race at Mornington. We'll have to work on the Mornington Cup next."

Warren said he had no concerns with the mile and a half trip.

"When David Brideoake was training him he was placed at Moonee Valley over 3000 metres. I was never worried about the distance," he said.

"He did a great job with David. He won six or seven races there and now he's done a great job with me.

"I couldn't be happier with him."

With dreams of winning next year's Mornington Cup, Warren looks set to send the six-year-old for a break.

"We might give him a breather. He's been in work since February," he said.

Brereton praised Warren for presenting the son of Carnegie in great shape.

"Thanks to Jason Warren who presented the horse sensationally," Brereton said.

"He told me a while ago that this race was on the radar and he's come through. He's trained him beautifully.

"He'd trained him for it and he's come up trumps. It's a great effort."

Despite being a drifter in the bookmakers' ring from $6 to $7.50, The Yartz was able to get home and beat the Noble Samurai ($3 fav) by 1-3/4 lengths.

Third home was Doin'thehardyards ($7) a further 3-1/4 lengths back.

The Yartz's long-term aim, the Listed Mornington Cup (2000m), will be run on February 18.
