Trainer Guy Walter is keeping a lid on autumn expectations for Hood, a three-year-old half brother to champion Tie The Knot.

Hood is scheduled to step out in a barrier trial at Rosehill on Tuesday after which Walter will map out his program.

At his only public appearance, Hood won a barrier trial at Hawkesbury in August after which he was found to be slightly shin sore and given a spell.

"He is ready to trial this week," Walter said.

"He is a big strong fellow and he showed promise last time.

"Also, he is by Shamardal who is going extremely well at the moment.

"He's got a good constitution and is a horse of the future but we don't want to get ahead of ourselves."

Hood is the second last foal left by grand mare Whisked who died during the spring from complications after giving birth to a Strategic filly.

The filly was saved and sent to a foster mother at Darley Stud in the Hunter Valley.

Tie The Knot won 13 Group One races during his career between 1997 and his retirement in the autumn of 2002.

His wins at the highest level include two Sydney Cups, two Ranvet Stakes, two Mercedes Classics and a record four Chipping Norton Stakes.

Tie The Knot was raced by his breeder Sandy Tait and his sister Jill Nivison.

Hood will sport their famous red silks with a white cap when he begins racing.

Walter has trained all of Whisked's progeny but none have matched the deeds of Tie The Knot with Dream Ballad the best performed of the rest, winning the 2005 Dulcify Quality.

After suffering a tendon injury, Dream Ballad was retired to stand at Erin Park Stud near Tamworth.
