Trainer Chris Waller remains confident stablemates Pressday and American Crew can overcome wide barriers to fight out the finish of the Group Two Sires' Produce Stakes at Eagle Farm.

Pressday, barrier 10, and American Crew, gate 12, will be vying to back up the following week in the Group One TJ Smith Stakes (1600m) at the same venue when they clash in Saturday's 1400-metre feature.

Pressday looked well above average when winning for Nash Rawiller last start in the Group Two Champagne Stakes (1200m) at Doomben on May 22.

American Crew is coming off a last-start second when overhauled late by Shadows In The Sun over 1400 metres at Rosehill on the same day.

Waller has continued his habit of using a variety of jockeys for his stable runners by engaging Jim Cassidy for Pressday while Kerrin McEvoy takes over from apprentice Daniel Ganderton on American Crew.

Waller hopes to unveil spring plans for Pressday following his winter campaign but it may not be the case with American Crew.

"American Crew is up for sale but if he can win or races well he'll more than likely back up in the TJ Smith," Waller said.

"He's a nice type and has the right constitution like Pressday to run again in seven days.

"American Crew is more a three-year-old type now and he should have won last start.

"He was left a sitting duck when he got to the front."

Waller, who is having a magnificent winter following his Group Two Hollindale Stakes and Group One Doomben Cup wins from Metal Bender, believes his pair are living up to the strong two-year-old form in Sydney this season.

"The two-year-old form in Sydney this year has been very strong and both American Crew and Pressday should appreciate going to 1400 metres," he said.

"I'm not at all worried about backing them up in the TJ Smith if they get that far."

Waller was reluctant to separate his pair but was disappointed with their barrier draws in the 15-horse field.

Waller also came up with visitor's draws for his other Eagle Farm runners including Al Nakhla who drew barrier 18 in the Group One Queensland Oaks, Tromso (11) in the Listed Daybreak Lover Plate, Triple Honour (13) in the Group Two Eagle Farm Cup and Stryker who drew barrier 12 in the Group Two QTC Cup.

"I can't believe my luck with these barriers," he said.

Waller has high hopes for Tromso who won impressively over 1200 metres at his past two starts at Rosehill.

"He's a nice Lonhro type and he's got an amazing turn of foot," Waller said.

"But he's stepping up to 1400 metres for the first time and taking on Group horses the first time.

"He'll make a nice horse as a four-year-old and his two wins in Sydney were very good.

"I'm just not sure yet if he's purely a 1200-metre horse or whether he might get 1600 metres."
