Local trainer Chris Waller has maintained his impressive strike rate this season with Lonhro filly Novita Flash scoring an easy all-the-way win at Rosehill on Wednesday.

It was Waller's 33rd success in the metropolitan area since August 1 and took him 10 wins clear of Peter Snowden in the Sydney trainers' premiership.

Waller paid $125,000 for Novita Flash, who is out of the Carnegie mare Info Miss, at last year's Magic Millions yearling sales.

The filly made her debut when 3-1/4-lengths fifth to Tallow over 1100m at Warwick Farm on November 25.

"Obviously she's had the benefit of race experience," Waller said.

"She had an easy time up front.

"We haven't really planned anything with her, we'll have a look at the calendar tonight."

Ridden by Nash Rawiller, Novita Flash ($5) jumped straight to the front in the Stoddart Group Hcp (1100m) and was never threatened, scoring by 3-3/4 lengths from As Different As ($11) with Lady Gazerra ($6) a half-head away third.

The disappointment of the race was the Snowden-trained $4.40 favourite Pondicherry who was midfield early but dropped out to finish last of the 11 runners.

Earlier, Kembla Grange trainer Bede Murray had the satisfaction of watching a daughter of his 2001 AJC Australian Derby winner Universal Prince, Universal Jewel, break through for her first win at her 11th start in the CSR Building Products maiden plate (2000m).

Aided by a copybook Blake Shinn ride, Universal Jewel ($7) came from worse than midfield early to score a convincing 1-1/4-length win over Bidthemobgooday ($4.80 fav) with Philosopher ($6) a half-length away third.

"She's been a bit unlucky on two or three occasions," Murray said.

"Today worked out good.

"She was a certainty beaten at Kembla last start."

Universal Jewel was a fast-finishing third to Seventh Reason over 1600m at Kembla on November 21 after being slowly away and checked near the 200m.

Beautifully-bred Commands colt Commandare showed he had a bright future when he scored a comfortable win in the Di Lorenzo Ceramics Maiden (1100m) with Tye Angland in the saddle.

Trained by Danny Williams at Goulburn, the three-year-old has having just his second start after being runner-up to Senhor Da Gama over 1200m at his home track on November 20.

"The horse is still learning, he's got a bit of scope," Williams said.

"We'll see how he pulls up then see what's available, maybe over the Magic Millions carnival."

Commandare, who is out of the Group One-winning Bletchingly mare Wrap Around, raced in fifth place until Angland made his winning move approaching the turn and he went on to beat $2.60 favourite Metallurgical by three-quarters of a length with Brother Patrick ($8) 1-1/2 lengths away third.

Snowden pegged one back from Waller when Kerrin McEvoy drove Renaissance, another daughter of Lonhro, through along the rails to win the final event, the Steel Buildings Solutions Hcp (1300m).
