Anthony Cummings and Chris Waller are set to bolster their Brisbane winter carnival teams after two lightly-raced gallopers impressed with victories at Canterbury on Wednesday.

Waller labelled Startreusse right up with the best two-year-olds in his stable after the Starcraft colt did it at both ends on debut to win the Grand Pavilion Maiden (1100m) by half a length over the fast-finishing Fontelina.

Sydney's premiership-leading trainer pinpointed the Group Two Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) in Brisbane on June 4 as the colt's likely next target.

Later in the day the Cummings-trained three-year-old Sir Fox also confirmed Brisbane plans when he defeated older horses in theraces.com.au Handicap (1250m).

Cummings is targeting the Group Two Queensland Guineas (1600m) on June 11 with Sir Fox.

Startreusse pressed forward from barrier 10 with Hugh Bowman working the colt to the front down the back straight.

He held a three length advantage at the 600 metre mark and then kicked again in the straight after Bowman gave the colt a breather coming to the home turn.

"The wide barrier draw didn't give us a lot of options but the horse has got a lot of class and I think he's got a big future ahead of him," Waller said.

"He's right up with there with our best two-year-olds and we'll try and go to the Sires' Produce Stakes with him," Waller said.

Sir Fox was sent out the $2.50 favourite in the final race of the day and despite appearing to be under pressure on the turn he responded strongly to defeat Lioncub and Legginit.

"He had a tough run and made a few mistakes so to still come away and beat older horses is the mark of a good horse," Cummings said.

"He'll go to Brisbane for a 1400 metre race in ten days time and then it's two weeks into the Guineas."

Cummings and Waller both prepared winning doubles while riding honours went to Corey Brown who bagged a treble.

With Sydney premiership leader Nash Rawiller suspended his nearest challenger Brown made the most of the situation with his three wins coming in the first four races.

Brown saluted on Stratana, Valhussle and Gaze In Awe but still trails Rawiller by 10-1/2 wins in the title race.
