Gold Coast filly Vortex earned rave reviews from veteran trainer Howard Wilson and could be Sydney-bound for the autumn following her narrow victory at Doomben.

Vortex was tardy out of the barriers before rushing to the front and managing to hold on for a short head win over Sheez Keen in Wednesday's Sky Racing Brisbane Bloodstock Handicap (1030m).

It was only the filly's second start following a debut sixth at the Gold Coast on New Year's Day.

Wilson immediately raised the bar with the daughter of Reset who was a graduate of the Magic Millions sales.

"We've been thinking about taking her to Sydney," Wilson said.

"She's one of the best two-year-olds I've trained, in fact she could be the best.

"I've always thought Domino was my best two-year-old until now but this filly is probably better.

"Domino was a very good horse who won the Brambles Classic at Kembla and ran fifth to Full On Aces in the (1981) Golden Slipper."

Jockey Chris Munce was equally impressed with Vortex's performance and jokingly added she had a bright future as a jumper.

"She'll be a lot better on top of the ground but did you see the way she jumped the crossing?" Munce asked.

"She could make a good jumper one day after that. She was so high I thought she'd bring the rain down with her."

Wilson tried to qualify Vortex for last week's $2 million Magic Millions Classic on her home track when she was soundly beaten on a slow track on debut.

"I was hoping to qualify her for the Magic Millions but she struck a wet track in her first start and missed the kick," Wilson said.

"She's very good and she could still end up going to Sydney.

"The Silver Slipper would be a nice race for her but she's not nominated for the Golden Slipper so she'd have to qualify if we went that way."

The Group Two Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) will be run at Rosehill on February 26 with the $3.5 million Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) on April 2.
