Two veteran performers will join forces for the first time on Saturday in the hope of feature race success at Rosehill.

Evergreen hoop Robert Thompson, the man who has ridden more winners than any other jockey in Australian racing history, will link with multiple Group One winner Sniper's Bullet in the Listed Winter Stakes (1500m).

Thompson replaces Mathew Cahill who is serving a careless riding suspension and trainer Tracey Bartley is not concerned Thompson has never been aboard Sniper's Bullet during the gelding's 48-start career.

"I haven't spoken to him yet about the horse but I will endeavour to do that this week," Bartley said.

"We'll both be at Grafton so I'll see him then.

"Robert is an old-fashioned rider and he (Sniper's Bullet) doesn't seem to mind that. He'll ride him well, he's a great rider and the horse worked really well on Tuesday morning."

After Sniper's Bullet's Brisbane winter preparation ended with a 14th in the Group One Stradbroke Handicap last month, Bartley turned his attention to Sydney and a two-run campaign.

The son of Bite The Bullet box-seated in the Listed Civic Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill on July 2 and ground to the line for fifth carrying 60.5kg.

The seasoned campaigner was unable to match the acceleration of some of his rivals but Bartley hopes a slight rise in distance can aid Sniper's Bullet on Saturday.

Sniper's Bullet hasn't won since claiming back-to-back Group One successes in Perth in late 2009.

"The 1500 metres suits him a bit better and we'll just try and ride him the same sort of way, up on the speed," Bartley said.

"He just got held up a touch as they straightened last start when he needed to roll into it.

"Hopefully he (Thompson) can just get him out and get rolling on him, he's not going to go dashing home but he's going to keep going."

Sniper's Bullet will carry 60kg with the Chris Waller-trained Altered Boy next in the weights at 55.5kg.

Bellagio Wynn and Viking Legend have 54.5kg while Gigino (53.5kg) is the only other runner of the 14 nominations to be above the 53kg minimum.

Bartley is spending the week in Grafton for the famous country carnival where Sniper's Bullet's relations, Slick Sniper and General's Sniper, will be in action.

"General's Sniper will run on Thursday and Slick could back up again on Sunday," Bartley said.

Slick Sniper finished second in Sunday's South Grafton Cup (1600m).
