Knockabout trainer Mick Tubman is daring to dream again with an unraced filly who is set to make her debut at Hawkesbury on Saturday.

Tubman hit the headlines last season when he took bargain buy filly Chance Bye all the way to a Golden Slipper berth with three two-year-old victories including the Group Two Silver Slipper.

Bonuses earned by Chance Bye's racetrack exploits paved the way for Tubman and fellow owner Jack Knight to come away with four more yearlings at last year's Classic Sale, including Manton filly Mick's Mantle who is entered for Saturday's Reavill Farm Inglis Bonus 2YO Handicap (1200m).

"I've got a really good opinion of her," Tubman said of Mick's Mantle.

"It will be hard (on Saturday) in her first start on a wet track but she'll be in there punching somewhere."

Chance Bye burst onto the scene and propelled Tubman into the spotlight with impressive wins in the Inglis Nursery (1000m), Inglis Classic (1200m) and Silver Slipper (1100m) before her ninth in last year's Golden Slipper.

Mick's Mantle showed Tubman enough from early on to have him optimistic she could also challenge in similar feature juvenile races, but the filly suffered a spring setback.

Tubman said the youngster pigrooted while on a walking machine and "nearly chopped her back leg off".

"It took about four months to get her right, but she's right now and it doesn't seem to worry her," the trainer said.

"I thought she'd be competitive in all them (two-year-old races) but it's really a blessing in disguise, it held her up a little bit and has given her a bit more time."

Saturday's race carries with it a $50,000 Inglis bonus for horses nominated for the Inglis race series and Tubman has targeted the race for Mick's Mantle's debut.

"When she came right I said, `that's the one we'll go for'," Tubman said.

Mick's Mantle won a barrier trial by eight lengths at Kembla on March 9 and has had two 800m jumpouts since then.

"She won a jumpout two weeks after her trial and then ran second against older horses last Wednesday," Tubman said.

Kathy O'Hara, regular rider of the recently-retired Chance Bye, will partner the filly.

"I see her more as an Oaks-type filly," Tubman said.

"She's not as brilliant as Chicken (Chance Bye), she's fast, but as a three-year-old I think she'll be really good."
