Controversial Gold Coast Turf Club chairman Andrew Eggleston has had a two-month disqualification for unseemly conduct amended to a $1500 fine.

Racing Queensland stewards hit Eggleston with the two-month ban after finding him guilty of unseemly behaviour towards security personnel at a Gold Coast race meeting in December.

On Monday, the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT) upheld the charge but varied the penalty to the monetary fine.

Counsel for Eggleston made a submission to the QCAT that stewards did not have jurisdiction over him.

This was rejected and the appeal proceeded into three separate incidents.

The QCAT found that the first incident amounted to unseemly conduct but not the two later incidents.

The tribunal concluded that Eggleston's initial approach to two security guards was inappropriate, distasteful and probably an abuse of his authority particularly given the words used by him.

In the course of considering penalty the tribunal said it did not accept he had genuinely made an effort to co-operate with stewards over the matter.

Eggleston is reported to have informed members he would not seek re-election to the Gold Coast Turf Club board regardless of the outcome of the appeal.
