Results rather than hype are all that matter for trainer Mark de Montfort as his promising galloper From The Vault tries to maintain an unbeaten record at Hawkesbury on Tuesday.

From The Vault has stamped himself as a genuine up-and-comer with two wins but de Montfort is reserving judgment on expectations for the horse.

"He only won a benchmark 70 race last time so I'm not getting ahead of myself," de Montfort said.

"Anyway, it's irrelevant what I think. What matters is what the horse does himself.

"I'm happy to wait and see."

From The Vault will give de Montfort an insight into what lies ahead when he lines up in the aptly-named Purple Patch Handicap (1400m).

It's a race with more depth than a typical midweek three-year-old affair with the inclusion of Circle Of Power, Onetonnegun, Kingfisher, Quidnunc and Fibrillation.

Circle Of Power is a nine-start maiden but was placed behind Golden Rose favourite Masquerader as a two-year-old.

Kingfisher is well-regarded by trainer Grahame Begg while Onetonnegun, Quidnunc and last-start plunge winner Fibrillation have shown Saturday-class potential in their short careers.

From The Vault came from last in a field of six to beat Top Drop when he resumed over 1250 metres at Canterbury on August 11.

Top Drop stepped into Group company at Warwick Farm on Saturday and finished fourth in the Up And Coming Stakes to provide de Montfort with a solid form reference.

"It's obvious Top Drop has come on a bit but you'd like to think my horse has improved along similar lines," the trainer said.

"Put it this way, it's better to see Top Drop come out and run fourth rather than last."

De Montfort is also preparing for the spring return of the best performed horse in his stable, the accomplished sprinter McClintock, but he says it is impossible to make a comparison between the Group Three winner and From The Vault.

"They have never been worked together and even if they were, it wouldn't matter because they are both lazy track workers," he said.

Hawkesbury Race Club is hosting the midweek meeting on behalf of the Australian Jockey Club.

The AJC transferred the fixture to save the Randwick course proper from further traffic ahead of the spring carnival.

Hawkesbury received 3mm of overnight rain but the track was rated in the good range on Monday with the rail placed in the true position.
