Trainer Robbie Griffiths is pushing on with Happy Glen after his unplaced performance in last month's Oakleigh Plate proved inconclusive.

Cranbourne-based Griffiths was hoping that the Oakleigh Plate would prove one way or another that Happy Glen was a genuine Group One sprinter.

But he came away from the race none the wiser after it turned into a rough house affair.

After winning four races for the campaign and finishing second at his previous two starts in stakes company, Happy Glen finished 14th of 18 runners to Swiss Ace in the Caulfield sprint.

"He didn't have much chance as he got pinballed around," Griffiths said.

"We were hoping that the Oakleigh Plate would be his grand final this campaign but it didn't work out that way.

"He seems to be holding up all right but I am feeling my way a little bit as we go as he has never had the chance before to train off in a campaign."

Happy Glen has won seven of his 18 start, including five of his 14 runs for Griffiths.

He still bears the scars from a severed hind tendon at only his second run for Griffiths in January last year but has come back from that injury with an extended campaign which kicked off in October.

Apprentice Dean Holland appears to have a connection with the son of Happy Giggle and has ridden him five times for three wins and two seconds.

Holland will try to improve on that record when he replaces Luke Nolen on Happy Glen in the Hoysted.

"We are taking what we can with him while we can at the moment," Griffiths said.

"We couldn't get a guide in the Oakleigh Plate as he got back too far and wasn't comfortable in a leader-dominated race.

"He could go out after this run but we will let him tell us.

"At the moment I can't fault him."

The Lee Freedman-trained colt Wilander, who finished seventh in the Oakleigh Plate, is $2.30 favourite with Happy Glen and La Chasseuse at $7 and The Chunkster at $8.
