Typhoon Tracy is odds-on favourite for Saturday's CF Orr Stakes at Caulfield after the bonus of drawing barrier one in the 10-horse field in her attempt to win her third Group One race.

Jockey Luke Nolen said the coveted inside draw was "better than 10" but added that the four-year-old mare had the attributes to make her own luck.

"It probably doesn't matter where she draws as she has that tactical gate speed," said Nolen who has won five races on Typhoon Tracy.

"She drew wide gates in her first two Group One wins.

"She'll be thereabouts. Whether she leads will just depend on what the riders of Danzylum and Sniper's Bullet want to do."

The daughter of Red Ransom has been dominant against her own sex, remaining unbeaten in seven starts in fillies and mares events.

These included the Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill from barrier 14 and the Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington from the outside barrier, 12, both at Group One level last year.

Her only defeats have come at weight-for-age when taking on the males but she has been far from disgraced.

She was beaten a length when third to Predatory Pricer, with Whobegotyou second, in the JJ Liston Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield and runner-up, beaten a nose, to Vigor in the Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington.

Typhoon Tracy jumped from the outside barrier, 16, when weakening from the lead to finish eighth to Heart Of Dreams in the Underwood Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield which was her only attempt beyond 1600m.

The last mare to win the Orr was South African import Perfect Promise in 2006.

Other females to win the race have been Grand Archway in 1999, Let's Elope (1992), Delightful Belle (1986), Surround (1977), Leilani (1975), Wenona Girl (1962) and Flight in 1946.

Nolen said trainer Peter Moody, who was due to fly back from the yearling sales in New Zealand on Wednesday night, had earmarked the Orr and the Group One Futurity Stakes (1600m) at Caulfield on February 27.

"Beyond that we have options in Sydney including the Coolmore, the George Ryder and the All-Aged but Pete will weigh all that up after the Futurity," Nolen said.

Typhoon Tracy is $1.70 favourite with TAB Sportsbet ahead of Heart Of Dreams at $4.60, Sniper's Bullet ($7.50), Raffaello ($11) with Viewed and Danzylum next best at $18.

Shocking ($23) will be attempting to become the sixth Melbourne Cup winner to win the Orr the following autumn.

Saintly in 1997, Jeune (1995), Let's Elope (1992), At Talaq (1987) and Comic Court in 1951 are the Melbourne Cup winners to achieve the double.

Trainer Mark Kavanagh and jockey Michael Rodd are going for back-to-back Orr victories with Shocking having won the race last year with their 2008 Cox Plate victor Maldivian.
