Bevan Laming has expressed a minor concern with talented filly Ringa Ringa Rosie ahead of her Doomben comeback, but doesn't expect it to impact on her spring chances in Melbourne.

Ringa Ringa Rosie will line up for her first start since finishing second to Pressday in the Group One TJ Smith at Eagle Farm in June in Saturday's The Plough Inn Tavern Handicap (1200m).

Laming had the option of running the daughter of Bradbury's Luck against her own age at Doomben but chose to take on older mares where she has only 53.5 kilograms.

Ringa Ringa Rosie has pleased Laming since she came back into work but he admits to having some reservations for her comeback.

"Her work is not as good as I would have liked," Laming said.

"She's been a bit keen and is not as relaxed as last campaign when she was very relaxed.

"Maybe she just needs a run to take the edge off her so she can relax more."

Laming also conceded wet tracks had disrupted Ringa Ringa Rosie's preparation but he remained confident she could be competitive first-up.

"Her pattern of racing is to get back so I don't think she'll race handy," he said.

Ringa Ringa Rosie is being aimed at the Group One VRC Oaks (2500m) at Flemington on November 4 but Laming hasn't finalised her lead-up program.

Her immediate target is the Group One Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on October 13.

"She'll have this run in Brisbane and then three weeks later in the Guineas Prelude on September 18 and then the (Thousand) Guineas," Laming said.

"Her main aim is the Oaks."

Ringa Ringa Rosie will be Laming's sole contender in Melbourne following the loss of Brisbane Cup winner Crossthestart.

Crossthestart was being aimed at the Caulfield Cup but is expected to be sidelined for a year after bowing a tendon in the paddock.

Ringa Ringa Rosie is a genuine spring contender and joins fellow Queenslanders Shoot Out, Military Rose and Buffering chasing the major riches in Victoria.

She earned a Melbourne trip following her strong performances during the recent Brisbane winter carnival.

Ringa Ringa Rosie won the Listed Hampden Stakes (1200m) at Doomben on May 15 before a fast-finishing third to Run For Levi in the Listed Doomben Slipper (1350m) on May 29 prior to her TJ Smith performance.
