Ballarat sprinter Time Matters will be working overtime to build on his stakes successes this year with an assault on the feature country winter sprints in Queensland.

Trainer Darren Weir has extended the six-year-old's campaign in order for him to contest Saturday's Listed Eye Liner Stakes (1350m) at Ipswich and the Listed Glasshouse Handicap (1400m) at Caloundra on June 27.

Time Matters, who was off the scene for 21 months with a tendon injury, has had a stellar campaign which started last December and includes feature wins in Caulfield's Listed John Dillon Stakes in January and Group Three Carlyon Stakes in February.

After a two-month breather, Time Matters impressed Weir last month with a half-length third to Arch Symbol in the Wangoom Handicap (1200m) at Warrnambool before a battling second to Gran Sasso at Flemington.

"I'm happy with the horse and confident he will run well on Saturday," Weir said.

"He got beaten a fair way (3-3/4 lengths) at Flemington last start but I thought he hung on pretty well considering it looked like he was going to struggle to run in the money at the 600 metres."

Weir said Time Matters took a while to get over his Wangoom run but added that he only had to replicate his effort at Warrnambool to figure in the finish at Ipswich.

Time Matters carried 59kg on a slow track in the Wangoom and has 57kg in the Eye Liner.

Brad Rawiller will take the reins on Time Matters replacing stable apprentice Jarrod Fry who rode the gelding last start.

Final acceptances are on Thursday when Weir hopes a favourable barrier draw will further enhance the chances of Time Matters.

He said Time Matters' racing style was ideal for races like the Eye Liner and the Glasshouse.

"He is fast out of the barrier, puts himself in the first three and usually toughs it out pretty well," Weir said.

"If he draws a barrier I'm sure he will be up there."

Only Absolut Glam (58.5kg), who is targeting the Winter Stakes on June 20, and El Cambio (58kg) have more weight than Time Matters on Saturday.
