The Darren Weir-trained Time Matters showed the benefit of being taken to the beach at Warrnambool between runs when he easily won the Barton Stakes at Caulfield.

The Gilded Time gelding had won six races, including the Listed Classic Mile (1600m) at Morphettville in January 2007, but suffered a tendon injury.

A stem cell operation was done on the leg and the six-year-old ended up being transferred to Weir who has had him for four starts for two 1400-metre wins at Caulfield at his past two starts.

"I can't take all the credit because he goes down to Jarrod McLean's who takes him to the beach at Warrnambool between runs for four or five days," Weir said.

"Then he comes back to me (at Ballarat) and does some hill work. He does very minimal galloping.

"He came to us a good galloper. All I have to do is maintain him and we can do that with the work at the beach and the hill work without putting pressure on the leg.

"We'd had a lot of horses do this that it hasn't worked with, but this is one of the better stories."

Top heavyweight jockey Steven Arnold made it two straight on Time Matters ($4.60) who took out the Listed race by two lengths from the versatile Sand Sweeper ($21) with Just Look ($8) a half-length away third.

Weir said Time Matters would have a crack at the Listed $110,000 Kilmore Cup (1600m) on February 15, a race he was runner-up in two years ago.
