New Zealand trainer John Wheeler will be hoping to recoup some unexpected expenses when Queensland Derby hopeful Court Ruler and Brisbane Cup prospect I'm Isaac race at Doomben on Saturday.

Court Ruler will be ridden by Larry Cassidy in the Group Three Rough Habit Plate (2020m) while Kiwi jockey Michael Walker will partner I'm Isaac in the Group Three Premier's Cup (2200m).

Wheeler was on his way to Queensland last week when his car and luggage were stolen from outside a motel in Auckland.

"The police have recovered some of the stolen gear which the thieves discarded along the way but not the car yet," said Wheeler.

"I lost everything including some jewellery, but more importantly they stole my new golf clubs I hadn't even used yet.

"I've had to buy new clothes over here and I had to get a new suit and outfit after I landed in Brisbane before I could go to Doomben last Saturday."

Court Ruler was ridden by Cassidy when he jumped from the outside of the 16-horse field to finish 11th to Za Magic in the three-year-old's Australian debut in the Group Three Doomben Classic (1615m) on May 9.

The Viking Ruler gelding previously finished fourth to Coniston Bluebird in the Group One New Zealand Derby (2400m) at Ellerslie on March 1.

"It was a good run on a slow track in the New Zealand Derby," Wheeler said.

"He slugged it out but I don't think he particularly likes a wet track."

Doomben is rated a heavy 10 for Saturday's Group One Doomben 10,000 meeting following torrential rain in the past two days.

Wheeler was pleased with Court Ruler's performance in the Doomben Classic when he tailed the field on the home turn and was beaten less than four lengths.

"I was quite happy with his run. He went quite nice for an opening salvo," he said.

"He wasn't really suited to 1600 metres and he'll be more at home when he gets to 2400 metres in the Queensland Derby."

The Group One Queensland Derby will be run at Eagle Farm on June 6.

While Wheeler has wet track concerns with Court Ruler in the Rough Habit Plate, he has no similar fears for I'm Isaac in the Premier's Cup.

I'm Isaac has been a moderate middle-distance performer in his homeland, winning seven times from 48 starts, but booked a trip to Queensland with his last-start second to Tinseltown in the Group Three Rotorua Cup (2200m) at Te Aroha on May 2.

"The rain will help him as he doesn't mind a soft track," Wheeler said.

"I know one thing - he'll go the distance."

Wheeler is aiming I'm Isaac at the Group Two Brisbane Cup (2400m) at Eagle Farm on June 6 and the Queensland Cup (3200m) at the same track on July 4.
