The Gai Waterhouse-John Singleton road show rolled on at Rosehill on Saturday with Jim Cassidy back in the fold to steer More Strawberries to a fighting win in the Tea Rose Stakes.

Cassidy had not ridden for Singleton since he was the regular partner of grand filly Ha Ha who counts the 2001 Golden Slipper and Flight Stakes among her wins.

"This is the greatest thrill I've had for six years," Cassidy said.

"I haven't ridden for them for that long and it's great to do it on a filly like this."

Owner-breeder Singleton combined with Waterhouse last week to take out the Theo Marks Stakes with More Joyous who confirmed her Cox Plate mission with the win.

More Strawberries was sent out at $3.10 for the Tea Rose (1500m) with Parables the $2 favourite.

Cassidy took More Strawberries straight to the front while Corey Brown had Parables ready to strike.

The pair cleared away from the field in the straight to battle it out to the line.

With "Pumper" Cassidy at his vigorous best, More Strawberries got the decision by a neck from Parables with 4-3/4 lengths to third-placed Ambers Waltz.

"I loved the way Jimmy stacked them up early and then let her go," Waterhouse said.

"What were they doing back there behind her?"

The Group One Flight Stakes (1600m) on October 2 is the next mission for More Strawberries who broke her maiden in the Furious Stakes two weeks ago.

"She is extra special because her mother is one of only four Strawberry Road mares left in Australia," Singleton said.

"I've got them all."

Singleton raced 1983 Cox Plate winner Strawberry Road and his Strawberry Hill Stud is named for the grand galloper who died at stud in the United States.

"I've got a simple philosophy. Breed a More Than Ready and send it to Gai to train," he said.

Singleton is a shareholder in Vinery stallion More Than Ready who has sired two Golden Slipper winners - Phelan Ready and Sebring.

It was the fourth win in the Tea Rose for Cassidy and the third for Waterhouse after Ha Ha (2001) and Shamekha (2003).

More Joyous, who is still in the mix for the Epsom Handicap despite probably having to carry topweight, won the Tea Rose last year.

"She's still in the Epsom," Singleton's racing manager Duncan Grimley said.

"We're just not sure what we do before the Cox Plate."
