Darren Smith is throwing Testarhythm in at the deep end at Rosehill this weekend but is happy to give the colt the chance to earn a Golden Rose start.
The three-year-old is not nominated for the Group One Golden Rose (1400m) on August 28 but Smith said connections would pay a $50,000 late entry fee should Testarhythm win Saturday's Group Three Run To The Rose (1300m).
Smith trained Court Command to win the $1 million Golden Rose in 2006 when the event only held Group Three status.
"I'm not saying he's any Court Command but whatever we've asked him to do he just keeps getting better," Smith said.
"I'm happy enough to say that I expect him to be competitive on Saturday with all going well."
Testarhythm resumed from a spell on a heavy track at Canterbury over 1200m on July 28 and impressed when winning a two-year-old maiden by almost two lengths with Corey Brown in the saddle.
Jim Cassidy will be aboard in the Run To The Rose on Saturday.
Smith said the Canterbury win first-up, when he defeated Rampart by 1-3/4 lengths with another 3-1/2 lengths between second and third, wasn't a surprise.
"He's always shown us he's got that ability," Smith said.
"I'm happy with him and I'm throwing him in the deep end on Saturday, but we can always come back (in grade).
"He's always promised he was going to be an above-average horse so I'm happy to give him the opportunity to show it."
More wet weather in Sydney on Tuesday has ensured another rain-affected surface for the weekend.
Testarhythm appeared to handle the wet with ease at Canterbury first-up and Smith said the track condition shouldn't pose a problem for the colt on Saturday.
"I think he'll handle anything but a wet track won't hurt him," he said.
"He's had one run in and will be fitter than some of the others."
The Run To The Rose attracted 19 nominations but the race has already had one high-profile defector with Hinchinbrook to line up in the Starlight Stakes against older horses instead of carrying 59.5kg against his own age.
