Promising stayer Tangalooma is spot-on for a tilt at next month's Brisbane Cup with trainer Kim Waugh's only concern being Queensland's wet weather.

The Zabeel five-year-old rocketed home to finish an unlucky and close third to Phaze Action in the Listed Andrew Ramsden Stakes (3200m) at Flemington on May 16.

"We'll see how the weather is up here in the next two weeks and if it's good then we'll bring him up for the Brisbane Cup and then the Queensland Cup," Waugh said.

Prior to the Ramsden, Tangalooma struggled on the slow going in the Sydney Cup when 10th to Ista Kareem on April 25.

"He didn't have any luck at Flemington. I think he should have won the race," Waugh said.

"He got into a bit of bother as soon as they jumped out of the barriers, he ran into another horse and he had to get him back to last."

"We thought he'd be near midfield like he was in the Sydney Cup but he ended up way out of his ground which was a shame.

"But he flew home and in the end it was a very encouraging run."

Waugh, who trained the winner of the 2005 Sydney Cup, Mahtoum, is hoping to launch a two-pronged assault in the Brisbane Cup with Risayla still in the mix.

Risayla finished 4-1/4 lengths seventh to Reggie in Group Three Premier's Cup (2200m) run on a heavy Doomben track on Saturday.

The mare was purchased in France where she was a winner over 2500 metres and raced up to 2800 metres before joining Waugh at Wyong on the NSW Central Coast last year.

She was desperately close to beating Divine Rebel when third in the Epona Stakes (1900m) at Rosehill on March 28.

Divine Rebel followed up with a win in the Group Two Chairman's Handicap (2600m) at Randwick.

The Group Two Brisbane Cup (2400m) is at Eagle Farm on June 6 while the Queensland Cup (3200m) is on July 4.
