Racing NSW chairman Alan Brown is "fairly confident" of soon getting the green light to run Friday night racing at Canterbury but not all industry participants are happy with the plan.

"We are still in discussion with the harness racing industry but I'm fairly confident that we will have eight night meetings at Canterbury in October, November and December," Brown said at a Racing NSW media briefing on Wednesday.

"These night meetings will be held in conjunction with Moonee Valley ... Harold Park trots will still race on Friday nights."

Jockey Corey Brown, who has experienced Friday night racing at Moonee Valley when based in Melbourne, says it is too taxing on riders.

"By the time you get home and unwind it's 11:30 and you're buggered. I was also getting up at 5am to ride trackwork the next day, you just get so run down," Brown said.

"Then you go home after trackwork, have a quick rest and then it's off to ride at the races all day. I don't like it."

Leading trainer Peter Snowden agreed with Brown.

"Personally, it's not for me," Snowden said.

"But it's my job and I've got to do it."

Randwick trainer John O'Shea agreed that it would be hard on participants but liked the idea.

"It's going to be tough working Friday nights and backing up to work all day Saturday," O'Shea said.

"But overall I've got no problem with it. We need to fall in line with Melbourne, it seems to be successful there."

Warwick Farm trainer Joe Pride would prefer it to be another night of the week but can see the potential benefits.

"I don't like having two major meetings back-to-back, it's going to be hard for us," Pride said.

"It's a big ask but if it's good for the industry then I'll support it.

"I think it will be good for the trots as well because people who are betting on the gallops on a Friday night might also have a few bets on the trots too, so it could improve their pools."
