Star Queensland sprinter Swiss Ace will return home from Sydney this week and miss the Group One TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick.

Caloundra trainer Mick Mair made the early call on Tuesday not to run the four-year-old in Saturday's 1200-metre feature following his defeat in the Group One The Galaxy (1100m) at Randwick.

Swiss Ace was beaten less than two lengths when a gallant fourth to Nicconi on a dead track.

"It was only dead last Saturday and he was hopeless in it," Mair said.

"He ran a good race in the Galaxy but it's generally a race for three-year-olds.

"He'll come home this week and he'll run next wherever it's dry."

Mair said Swiss Ace wasn't his normal self in Sydney and was stirred up on race day.

"He was a little stirred up last Saturday but it's not an excuse for getting beaten," he said.

"He was stabled behind the tie-up stalls at Randwick where there were a lot of other horses and it just got him going."

Swiss Ace will probably have his next start in the Group One BTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben on May 9 but Mair hasn't ruled out running him in the Listed Prime Minister's Cup (1300m) at the Gold Coast a week earlier.

"I'll run him wherever it's dry," he said.

"But the BTC Cup and the Doomben 10,000 will be his main goals and possibly the Stradbroke during the winter carnival."

Swiss Ace established himself as one of the country's best sprinters when he claimed the Group One Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield in February.

Mair had never won a Group One race and it was also a maiden elite-level triumph for jockey Ken Pope.

The entire was then edged out by Perth sprinter Scenic Blast in the Group One Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on March 7 prior to his Galaxy defeat.

Swiss Ace was sold for a bargain $6,000 as a yearling and has amassed more than $850,000 with 10 wins and three placings from 17 starts.

The son of Secret Savings will race on until at least the end of the winter carnival before a decision is made about a future career at stud.

"There's been plenty of interest to stand him at stud but no firm offers are on the table yet," Mair said.

"It's all up to his owner, Darryl Rogers, but he wants to get the winter out of the way first.

"There's no reason why the horse couldn't race on for at least another season."
