Quality galloper Swift Alliance's history of rebounding strongly from a heavy Melbourne defeat will be put to the test once more at Randwick on Saturday.

Melbourne has provided three blemishes on Swift Alliance's otherwise exemplary record but there is growing stable confidence about his chances in the Listed Razor Sharp Handicap (1200m).

"Just forget about Melbourne with the (heavy) track and everything," Tulloch Lodge's Bruce Slade said.

In trainer Gai Waterhouse's morning absence, Slade has overseen Swift Alliance's trackwork this week.

"On Tuesday his work was sensational and today (Thursday) he just lobbed along to keep a bit in the tank for Saturday."

Placed in the Group One Galaxy early this year after failing in the Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield, Swift Alliance was sent first-up into the Salinger Stakes at Flemington but was beaten almost 13 lengths on a heavy track behind Whitefriars.

Swift Alliance proved his fitness for the Razor Sharp with a 1050m Randwick barrier trial win on December 6.

He will have to shoulder 60kg - 1kg less than the similarly performed ex-stablemate Bank Robber carried to a 1-1/2 length fifth last year.

Nash Rawiller rode Bank Robber in 2009 and Slade believes the jockey's sizzling form will help Swift Alliance.

"Sixty kilos is a big weight but Nash should be able to give him the right run," Slade said.

Swift Alliance is a $5 to $4.80 firmer in early TAB Sportsbet betting and he heads markets over the Gerald Ryan-trained duo of Ahdashim ($6.50) and Ego's Dare ($7).

Ego's Dare is up 3kg to 56kg on his third behind Prince Braeman in last year's race but the six-year-old has subsequently won the Hall Mark Stakes and has been placed in the QTC Cup and Healy Stakes.

Evergreen bush sprinter The Jackal is also returning for another crack at the Razor Sharp after his sixth placing in 2009.
