The Gai Waterhouse-trained Swift Alliance is an early casualty from the Group One BTC Cup while trainer Peter Moody has delayed a decision on whether Set For Fame will head north for Saturday's Doomben feature.

Swift Alliance was to launch Waterhouse's winter assault in the Group Two Victory Stakes (1350m) at Doomben eight days ago but the four-year-old was ruled out of the sprint with a pricked hoof.

Waterhouse said the injury wasn't too serious but Swift Alliance had taken longer than expected to recover.

"He had a bit of a setback which meant we had to delay his first run there but he's fine now," Waterhouse said.

"Unfortunately, he's a little behind schedule and he won't be ready in time for next Saturday."

Swift Alliance, a seven-time winner from 12 starts, is owned by the Gooree Pastoral Company which plans to retire the entire to stud after one more season of racing.

The son of Don Eduardo is yet to win at the elite level but Waterhouse hopes to rectify that in either the Group One Doomben 10,000 (1350m) on May 29 or the Group One Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 12.

Gooree racing manager Andrew Baddock has been in negotiations with several leading studs but no decision has been made as to where Swift Alliance will stand.

Swift Alliance has raced only once beyond 1200 metres when runner-up to Youthful Jack in three-year-old company at Randwick in 2008.

However, Waterhouse and Baddock were keen listeners when jockey Nash Rawiller recommended Swift Alliance head north for the Stradbroke following his third to Ortensia in the Group One The Galaxy (1100m) at Randwick last month.

Meanwhile, Set For Fame has recovered from a stable virus which ruled her out of last month's AJC Australian Oaks at Randwick but Moody won't yet commit her to a Brisbane campaign.

"She's nominated for the BTC Cup up there on Saturday but I haven't decided if she'll go up for it," Moody said.

"I probably won't make up my mind until later in the week but she won't go unless she's going good."

The virus which struck down Set For Fame curtailed Moody's assault on the Sydney autumn carnival.

It only affected horses Moody had stabled at Randwick but it cost him the chance of going to the outright lead at the top of the Group One ladder this season.

Moody and Bart Cummings share top spot with six Group Ones each.

Along with Set For Fame, stablemates Hanks and Another Sunday were also ruled out of Group One assignments in the Australian Derby and Champagne Stakes respectively.

Moody has already decided not to send Hanks to Brisbane for the Queensland Derby and is considering his options with Set For Fame who is nominated for the 10,000 and Stradbroke Handicap.

Set For Fame hasn't raced since finishing ninth to Faint Perfume in the Group One Vinery Stud (2000m) at Rosehill on April 3.
