One-time Golden Slipper prospect Streets Away is finally set to make his Sydney debut - 20 months after his trainer had first planned.

The Alan Bailey-trained Queenslander was all set to test out his 2009 Golden Slipper credentials when a bout of colic ruled him out of the Sydney autumn carnival.

More injury problems have since stopped the gelding from reaching his potential but Bailey has him back in Sydney ready to contest Wednesday's Dalkia Handicap (1550m).

"Everything is good with him at the present time," Bailey said.

"He's been a horse that has always shown us a bit but he's always had a lot of problems so we're just trying to work around them and see if we can do something with him."

Streets Away made a big impression in Brisbane early last year when he won his first two starts in commanding fashion.

His 3-3/4 length Doomben win at his second start crunched his Golden Slipper quote from $61 to $16.

Bailey hit the road to Sydney with Streets Away for the Skyline Stakes but the youngster never got to the race because of a colic attack.

"He had it (colic) for six hours, they were just about to operate on him when he came good," Bailey said.

"He then ran a nail in his foot and it was at an underrun sole and we just couldn't get it right.

"Put all that together and you've got problems."

All up, Streets Away was out of action for 60 weeks before returning for a five-run Queensland campaign earlier this year.

He has started twice so far this preparation including a last start second at over 1350m at Doomben.

Bailey said it had become hard to place Streets Away in Brisbane so he looked south for suitable options.

His Canterbury showing is likely to determine whether Streets Away stays on for more Sydney races during the summer.

"He has come home good at his first two runs and he's needed a few runs because he's such a big horse and he hasn't had the racing," Bailey said.

"He wants a bit of racing to get him fit."

TAB Sportsbet has installed Streets Away the $4.60 second favourite behind last start Kembla winner Brayroan ($2.60) at Canterbury.
