Sydney's pin-up filly Streama responded to the challenge from her first-up conqueror to turn the tables with a narrow but impressive victory in Saturday's Group Two Surround Stakes at Warwick Farm.

The Group One Flight Stakes winner was narrowly beaten by the John O'Shea-trained Sea Siren in the Light Fingers Stakes but showed her class in the Surround as she got the better of Sea Siren over the 1400m by a long neck.

The two fillies cleared out from the rest of the small field with Hallowell Belle leading in the rest of the chasers another 3-1/2 lengths away.

Trainer Guy Walter was relieved to see the star filly return to the winner's circle and will plot a path to Group One success during the Sydney autumn.

"She really lengthened when Hughie (Bowman) asked her to and she has a great will to win, like all the good ones do," Walter said.

"She's a terrific little filly no doubt about that."

Walter said the immediate target was likely to be the Group One Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill in two weeks but the astute trainer will keep his big race options open after that.

"What we are going to do is look at the Coolmore in two weeks," Walter said.

"She's only ever beaten her own age and sex but we're going to pay up for the Doncaster and it would take a pretty special three-year-old filly to win a Doncaster.

"On Tuesday she'll also be nominated for the (Australian) Oaks. She's a much more relaxed filly and I wouldn't rule out going that way either, to the Storm Queen Stakes and the Oaks."

In a field of only six runners, Bowman was positive early on Streama ($1.50 fav) and took up the running.

Hallowell Belle ($6.50) moved around to take over with Bowman edging Streama out to sit outside the lead in clear running.

Sea Siren ($6.50) challenged strongly from the top of the straight but Streama was up for the fight to record her fifth win from 10 starts.

Bowman was confident on Streama but admitted he was surprised how strongly Sea Siren challenged his mount.

"For a few fleeting strides I must admit I was concerned but my filly felt her there and went into overdrive. It's a privilege to ride a horse that can do that for you," the jockey said.

Bowman believes there is also still "plenty in the tank" for the autumn features.

Jim Cassidy, rider of Sea Siren, viewed the stewards' footage after the race but decided against a protest.

"The other one was probably just a bit too good and has a bit of class," Cassidy said.

"My filly has done a great job. She was inconvenienced at the 1000-metre mark. He (Bowman) just came out under my neck which didn't help."
