Common Objective and Music Review are on track for a rematch in the McKell Cup at Rosehill after fighting out a thrilling two-way finish in the Lord Mayor's Cup last start.

Trainers Gai Waterhouse and John O'Shea confirmed the pair will take their place in Saturday's Listed 2400m staying feature in Sydney.

The Waterhouse-trained Common Objective just got the better of Music Review in the Lord Mayor's Cup (2000m) on May 8, controlling the race from the front and fighting off the O'Shea-trained mare in the driving finish to win by a short-neck.

"He's come through the Lord Mayor's Cup really well, I couldn't be more delighted with him," Waterhouse said of Common Objective.

"I just love the way he's training, on Saturday morning he just glided around Randwick and I don't think the 2400 metres will be a problem."

Common Objective is already a winner over the McKell Cup distance and has three placings at the trip including in the Manion Cup and City Tatt's Cup last year.

Waterhouse was impressed with the five-year-old's ability to control the race last start, backing up seven days after finishing fifth in the Rowley Mile at Hawkesbury.

"I liked the way he got into his rhythm and I liked the way he was very decisive in finding the line," Waterhouse said.

"I think he'll be hard to beat again going on what he did the other day, and the way he's progressed."

O'Shea, meanwhile, will utilise the services of Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Corey Brown in the McKell Cup, with the comeback hoop to take over the reins from apprentice Timothy Bell.

"I'm very happy with Music Review and the McKell Cup looks a nice race for her," O'Shea said.

"I thought her last run was very good, she just got out-toughed by a better horse on the day."

Brown only returned to the saddle last Thursday after recovering from a fractured left shoulder sustained in a fall at Warwick Farm on March 30.

The injury kept Brown out of Golden Slipper day and the entire three-week Randwick autumn carnival.

O'Shea provided Brown with his first winner back from injury at Hawkesbury on Thursday, and if Music Review can go one better on Saturday it would be Brown's first stakes win since his return.

Music Review finished runner-up to Ready To Lift in the 2009 McKell Cup after going down narrowly to Penrickson in the Lord Mayor's Cup one start earlier.
