Exciting two-year-old Starspangledbanner has raised the expectations of jockey Vlad Duric only two weeks out from the Blue Diamond Stakes.

Duric was gobsmacked when he partnered the Choisir colt to a 10-length win in a 900-metre barrier trial at Cranbourne on Monday in preparation for Sunday's Group Three colts and geldings Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m).

"Gee, he went good," Duric said.

"I couldn't believe it. I couldn't help but get excited.

"I am really looking to forward to riding him in a race again."

Starspangledbanner hasn't started since his debut when he led throughout to win the Inglis Juvenile (1000m) at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate day.

Duric said the trial win showed that the Leon Corstens-trained youngster was clearly superior to when he first raced in the spring.

"He has improved a heap," Duric said.

How much will be revealed at Caulfield where his rivals include unbeaten Sydney colt Real Saga and Blue Diamond Preview winner Reward For Effort as well as high-priced first starters Shoot Through and The Comedian.

Starspangledbanner is at $14 with TAB Sportsbet to win the Blue Diamond on February 21 but he is only $4.50 in the Prelude.

Real Saga, who won first-up at Randwick on January 24, is $3.20 favourite for the Prelude and second favourite for the Blue Diamond at $7..

Blue Diamond $3.20 favourite Rostova is odds-on at $1.40 to stay unbeaten at her third run in the fillies Blue Diamond Prelude.

Trainer Steve Richards said the Testa Rossa filly, who won the fillies Blue Diamond Preview by 2-1/2 lengths on January 26, was "going terrific".

"She is as tough as nails and another run won't hurt her at all," Richards said.

"She is spot-on and it will take something pretty smart to beat her."

Exceedingly French ($6) and Quick Blush ($9) are also unbeaten after two starts and look the best chances of challenging Rostova.

The Mick Price-trained Corsaire ($9), who is resuming after a debut win at Sandown, is the only other runner under $26.
