Star Of Octagonal will have to overcome a horror barrier if he is to win Friday's inaugural Inglis Guineas at Scone.

The three-year-old came up with barrier 15 in the field of 16 plus three emergencies.

Although disappointed with the draw, trainer Todd Howlett hoped the engagement of big-race jockey Glen Boss, combined with a long run to the first turn, would help offset the barrier.

"It is a bit disappointing but it's a nice big track at Scone and there's a big run to the turn so we'll just do our best," Howlett said.

"Glen Boss knows what he's doing.

"The horse is well and I'm happy with him, obviously it would have been nice to draw a better barrier but we'll just take it as it comes."

A last-start winner of the South Pacific Classic, Star Of Octagonal's rivals in the $740,000 Inglis Guineas (1600m) include All Legal who finished third to him at Randwick.

He has drawn well in barrier eight while Keith Nolan Classic winner Slapstick has the rails.

Meanwhile, trainers Sue Grills and Joe Pride have both decided to head to the Raheeb Quality Hcp (1100m) at Scone with their respective sprinters Border Rebel and Black Prince.

The pair was also nominated for a 1200-metre Open Handicap at Randwick on Saturday.

Peter Robl will partner Black Prince while Grill's gun apprentice Timothy Bell, who has ridden Border Rebel in all but two of his 13 starts, will again be in the saddle.

Border Rebel is racking up an impressive strike rate with 10 wins and Grills is looking forward to pitting him against the likes of Group One winner Black Piranha on Friday.

"This is probably his hardest test to date but I think he'll run well," Grills said.

"I want to run him in the QTC Cup at Eagle Farm on the fifth of June so he needs a start and this race gives us three weeks since his last run and then he'll have three weeks going into Eagle Farm.

"If he runs well in the QTC Cup then we'll look at the Stradbroke."

Border Rebel made the successful leap to stakes company with a strong 3-1/2 length win in the Listed Hinkler Hcp (1200m) on a heavy Eagle Farm track last month.

"He doesn't mind the sting out of the ground but it was a good effort to win on it first-up," Grills said.

"He did have a bit of a blow after that race and he's tightened up a bit more since then."

The Listed Scone Cup (1600m) is shaping as a competitive race with Rowley Mile winner Snow Alert drawing barrier 16 while runner-up Keffiya has four and third placegetter Parfumier eight.

Multiple Group One winner Mentality has drawn the outside in 19.

Illuminates, second to Typhoon Tracy in the Group One Queen Of The Turf Stakes two starts ago, heads the field for the Listed Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) which also boasts Typhoon Tracy's younger half-sister Tracy's Choice.
