Squamosa, rated by Gai Waterhouse as a potential international-class sprinter last week, has been given a clean bill of health in the wake of a heavy last-start defeat.

Squamosa was cleared by Tulloch Lodge vets less than 24 hours after his Takeover Target Stakes loss at Gosford, adding even more mystery to his odds-on flop.

A stable spokesman told stewards the three-year-old would now be spelled in readiness for a spring campaign.

On the back of a runaway June Stakes win, Squamosa had a mortgage on Takeover Target Stakes betting but he was beaten at the turn before finishing seventh as the $1.30 favourite.

Squamosa had been in line for a Civic Stakes start on Saturday but he was missing from Monday's Rosehill entries leaving Waterhouse with only two runners at the meeting.

The holidaying trainer will be represented by Kinnersley and Crossbow.

Crossbow will be a Nash Rawiller ride with the premier jockey to link with Chris Waller for three mounts, including Altered Boy in the Civic Stakes.
