Crown Lodge stable favourite Spinney is coming to the end of his career but his recent Tatt's Cup win shows he still has something to give on the racetrack.
The eight-year-old is one of 11 nominations for Saturday's Listed Frank Underwood Cup (2000m) at Rosehill along with his stablemate, the lightly-raced Chevronel.
Spinney thrilled trainer Peter Snowden and the Darley team with his fighting spirit and determination to hold off Southern Skye by a short head in the Listed Tattersall's Cup (2000m) on New Year's Day.
Snowden said there had been interest shown in Spinney as a potential three-day-eventer but a decision on retirement had not yet been made.
"We're taking it race by race with him," Snowden said.
"No final decision has been made when he will retire.
"The important thing is that when he does, he has the right sort of home."
Spinney has raced 47 times for eight wins and 12 placings including a second to Rabbuka in the Frank Underwood last year.
Chris Waller has three entries in the feature but is likely to rely on Alexander Of Hales with Bellagio Wynn and Strike One to be saved for another day.
A former Irish horse, Alexander Of Hales has won one race for Waller but has consistently run good races including his 1-3/4 lengths fourth in the Tatt's Cup.
Starcraft's owner Paul Makin was the major partner in the syndicate which bought Alexander Of Hales for a reported $1 million after he finished second in the 2007 Irish Derby won by Soldier Of Fortune.
After a spring campaign with Danny O'Brien in Melbourne in 2008, Alexander Of Hales was sent north to Waller for a change of scenery.
He spent much of last year sidelined with a hairline fracture in his hind leg.
"He always runs consistently well," Waller said.
"He is likely to be the stable's only runner in the Frank Underwood."
Red Lord is the top rated horse in the Underwood on 101 and is also entered for the Magic Millions Cup (1800m) at the Gold Coast.
The Waller stable will be well represented at Rosehill as Sydney's leading trainer attempts to extend his streak of Saturday wins on his home track.
Waller has trained at least one winner at the past 19 Saturday meetings held at Rosehill.
