Rival John Sargent believes Bart Cummings and Peter Moody will remain deadlocked in their battle for Group One training honours following the Queensland Oaks.

With only five Group One races of the season remaining in Brisbane over the next four weeks, Cummings and Moody share first place with six wins each.

The pair get the chance in Saturday's Group One feature to take the lead with Cummings represented by favourite Dariana while Moody has second elect, Fairy Oak.

But New Zealander Sargent plans to spoil the party with Spera who will be ridden by Damien Browne.

Sargent's confidence in Spera has soared following the filly's last-start fourth to the Mike Moroney-trained Marheta in the Group Three Doomben Roses (2020m).

"It was a great run," Sargent said.

"She sat four wide right around the home turn and covered a lot of extra ground.

"She deserved to fall in a hole but she dug deep.

"If she gets a good draw I'd like to ride her a bit colder in the Oaks. It was a big effort in the Roses but you can't do it both ends."

Sargent has never saddled a Queensland Oaks runner and his best victory in Brisbane was with Filament in the QTC St Leger (2900m) at Eagle Farm in 1994.

Sargent decided to remain loyal to Browne because of his knowledge of Eagle Farm and given the experience he gained on the daughter of Country Reel in the Doomben Roses.

"I like a rider who knows the horse," Sargent said.

"She's very fit now and I'd like to see her arrive a bit later than what she did in the Roses.

"There's a chance she might get back a bit further this time if the race is run to suit."

Dariana worked impressively at Eagle Farm on Tuesday with Michael Rodd in the saddle but will be ridden by Steve Arnold in the Queensland Oaks.

Rodd has ridden the filly at her past three starts including her handy third to Marheta in the Doomben Roses, but will miss the Queensland Oaks meeting due to a careless riding suspension.

At 82, Cummings is still a fierce competitor having notched 259 Group One wins including 12 Melbourne Cups but a Queensland Oaks win has come his way only once with Round The World in 1987.
