Soul's triumphant Dubai debut last week could have earned the stakeswinning sprinter the chance to take on his former Australian stablemate Sepoy on World Cup night.

Soul won three of his 12 starts in Australia when prepared by Darley's head trainer Peter Snowden before being transferred to Sheikh Mohammed's Godolphin operation earlier this year.

The son of Commands made a winning start for Godolphin at Meydan in Dubai on Thursday night, winning by 1-1/4-lengths over 1200m on turf in the Attijari Points Rewards Program Handicap with Frankie Dettori in the saddle.

Superstar three-year-old Sepoy will venture to Dubai later this week and Snowden will remain his trainer for the Group One Golden Shaheen (1200m) at Meydan on March 31.

Soul, whose biggest win in Australia was the 2010 Group Two Danehill Stakes at Flemington, could also be headed that way.

"Soul has been showing plenty of speed in the mornings and six furlongs looked like a good trip for him," trainer Saeed bin Suroor was quoted on Godolphin's website.

"We will keep options open for him on Dubai World Cup night (March 31). He could step up in trip for the Godolphin Mile or possibly remain at this distance for the Dubai Golden Shaheen. I think that six furlongs is the best distance for him."

Sepoy will be accompanied on the trip to Dubai by Helmet who disappointed in Saturday's Australian Guineas, his final start before the UAE Derby.

After the start was held up, the colt reared up in the barrier as he has in the past and came out last, losing all chance to win.

Kerrin McEvoy has been booked to ride both Sepoy and Helmet at the World Cup meeting.
