Sniper's Bullet will use Saturday's Yallambee Stud Stakes at Flemington as a springboard to the Group One Emirates Stakes.

The now six-year-old scored his biggest win in the 2007 Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm which was also his last victory.

The closest he has come to winning in 19 starts since was in November last year when he was an unlucky short head second to Gilded Venom in the Group One Railway Stakes (1600m) in Perth.

He also finished second in the Sir Byrne Hart in Brisbane earlier this year taken out by Oakleigh Plate winner Swiss Ace.

The gelding was a second-up fifth to McClintock in the Group Three Betfair Stakes over 1400 metres at Caulfield on October 17 and trainer Tracey Bartley said he would strip much fitter for Saturday's Group Three Yallambee Stud Stakes over the same distance.

"He missed a gallop prior to going to Melbourne and that probably told last start," Bartley said.

"He tracked up inside all right but just when he was asked to go he couldn't go and he simply ran out of condition.

"But I'm expecting him to find a lot more in the tank on Saturday."

Last year, Bartley based Sniper's Bullet at Caulfield for his carnival campaign in Melbourne but this time he has chosen to stable him in a more relaxed country environment at Patrick Payne's stables at Rockbank, about 30 kilometres west of Melbourne, in an attempt to emulate his NSW home at Mudgee.

"I spoke to Paddy Payne and he's very happy with the horse," Bartley said.

"I'll go down there this week."

Sniper's Bullet kicked off his spring campaign when he ran on strongly from last on heavy ground to finish third to Gold Trail in the Group Two The Shorts (1100m) at Randwick on October 3.

In 2008, Sniper's Bullet was second to All Silent in the Yallambee before going on to run ninth to that horse in the Group One Emirates Stakes (1600m).

"He's on track for the Emirates again this year, that's grand final day for him and he'll be at his peak," Bartley said.

The Emirates is at Flemington on November 7.
